Halloween hooligans

After having a lot of fun making some portraits of the characters at last year's Halloween party , I decided to definitely do it again this year. Apple's "Cheeeeeese" commercial for the new panorama feature in iOS6 gave me the idea to try to shoot them all on white and make one big panorama-style composite. Between the tips from the Strobist Lighting In Layers DVD and Zack Arias' detailed white seamless tutorial , I was armed with just enough info (and Home Depot tile boards) to be dangerous. Here is a little behind-the-scenes look at the setup which ran diagonally across the longest part of the garage. It still wasn't quite long enough to overcome the lights bouncing off of the low ceiling, but we made do and had a blast in the process. I had an absolute blast shooting photos for a "project" at work with Chip (pictured), the most like-minded photography nerd friend I have there.

A cool night in bean town

Digging through some 2013 photos, I found this set I took at an instructional nighttime photo walk around Boston I did near Christmas time. The walk was a very thoughtful birthday present from my sister and was led by a photographer from Remember Forever . Since this was a "beginner class" I wasn't sure how much I'd learn from the technical side, but I'm of the opinion that I can always learn something and when it comes to photography, it is pretty hard for me to not have fun. [Enjoying myself for 4 hours at windy, subzero temperatures was proof enough!] I concentrated on the toughest aspect for me (composition) while the instructor led us around to some pretty cool shooting locations. As it turns out I learned a LOT, mostly about things I never even considered. Sneaky Pete

After 3 straight years of Scott donating to Dana-Farber in support of my Falmouth Road Race fundraising efforts (and me not getting around to making a new Linked In profile for him), I got this frantic text message: Help! I need a "professional" headshot! ... I need a pic before Friday! A few joking messages back and forth confirmed that yes, he actually was serious and needed a decent, up-to-date headshot for a bio which would be printed along with all the other speakers at a conference he was asked to present at. So off we went...
